Engravings, Illustrations

Engraving is a technique of printmaking, where the design is etched into a metal plate. It originated in Germany and Italy around the middle of the 15th century. In Italy it was mainly used to make copies of already existing artworks, while German printmakers preferred using this technique to produce wholly original works of art.
