Eastern Art, Ukiyo-e

Eastern art includes a variety of artworks from many different cultures across the continent of Asia. The art of Asia and Europe are intertwined, both greatly influencing each other over the centuries.

Ukiyo-e is a form of Japanese art, which was popular during the period of 17th - 19th centuries. Paintings and woodblock prints of this style depicted a variety of subjects - from portraits of kabuki actors, sumo wrestlers and female beauties to scenes from history and folk tales, nature landscapes and erotica.

Ukiyo-e was crucial in the formation of the west's perception of Japanese art. And had influence over a variety of genres - impressionism, art Nouveau and post-Impressionism, to name a few.
