Expressionism

Expressionism originated in northern Europe at the end of 19th - early 20th centuries. Expressionist artists sought to present the world from a subjective and emotional point of view. In order to achieve the desired emotional effects and mood, the subject matter oftentimes would be radically distorted by the artist. Underlining the focus on the emotional experience, instead of a material one.
